Austin or Orlando?
A few days ago Graywolf and I had a small debate on Twitter and I’m curious. If Danny or Kevin (think that’s his name) wanted to pick a new location for a national show, where would you want to go?
Graywolf wants Orlando (yawn!) hehe.
I want to see a show come to Austin (along with many other Texas people). Why? Austin is the live music capital of the world. We have more awesome music in a five block radius than Orlando has in the entire Magic Kingdom. Austin has Sixth street, one of the most well known strips of top notch bars and dives in the US. We have Lance Armstrong, Keep Austin Weird, ACL (Austin City Limits), Congress Bridge Bats, SXSW, The Driskill, some of the best local restaurants, and the best TexMex anywhere!!, the list could go on and on! Austin is the best place for SEOs to meet up because we have the best mix of technology, laid back-ness, food, and alcohol on the planet!!
This all stems from Laura Alter’s post about how we get no conferences in Austin that are geared toward SEMs (she and I just got back from one geared to SMBs).

i picked austin.. they just had a huge blogger convention there… i live in dallas and probably wouyld NOT go to an event here for anonymity reasons.. however i could go to one in austin.. but would not go to one in orlando.. if i’m going to beach, i’m not going to sit inside all day.

I’m sure Austin is a fine city but the chance to go to orlando, and disney, and to have me playing buzz lightyear with danny sullivan, or giving you a grey hat SEO optimizers tips on getting the most out of disney … c’mon now

If we can support SXSWi, we can support any tech event. Bring it on.

Austin. Austin. Austin. Austin. Not just because it’s not in Florida, but because it seriously rocks. Great music, great food, great people. What more do you need for a great show? Though I do also love New Orleans….

To add to your list, a recent survey by Scarborough Research ranked Austin the most digitally savvy city in the US. Probably because Sun, Apple, IBM, Dell, and others are here. Also Austin is well known for its young and educated population.
